EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Outreach Program.

The PODC is currently implementing a program to visit local schools to educate children about our local marine environment. This first program will focus on marine mammals and be offered to the younger elementary grades.

This program helps build a child's relationship with and appreciation for their local ocean environment.

This class will connect them with common marine mammals, introducing the relationship between marine mammals and humans.

A variety of activities will be on hand for outreach teachers to use depending on teacher preferences, class size and class knowledge. Activities will captivate and stimulate the students and help them recognize how they relate to marine mammals.

Using an assortment of materials such as posters, pictures and models, classes will cover adaptations, foraging techniques and identification of local marine mammals.

Our Outreach Educators have scientific knowledge, experience working with children and a love for the ocean. They are working hard at creating a stimulating and interesting pilot program.

If you are interested in a visit to your school, contact Lizelle Saure, our Outreach Coordinator.
